YUNTIAN EUROPEAN DOUBLE GIRDER CRANE – LOGISTICS CENTRE, GERMANY
Background
A logistics service provider in Duisburg, Germany, constructed a new 6,000 m² hall for handling heavy steel pipes up to 16 metres in length and weighing up to 10 tonnes per piece. The building was designed with a reduced roof height to contain construction and climate-control costs. All lifting equipment required FEM/DIN compliance and CE certification.

The Challenge
1.Low headroom: a conventional double girder crane would have required raising the roof, adding significant structural steel cost.
2.Heavy, long load handling: steel pipes up to 16 m and 10 t needed stable lifting without material distortion.
3.High throughput: the crane had to sustain frequent cycles across multiple workstations with precise positioning.
4.Cost sensitivity: the operator prioritised total cost of ownership, including structural modifications and long-term maintenance.
The Solution
The operator selected a Yuntian European Double Girder Overhead Travelling Crane with New European trolley and dual-speed hoist, configured at 10-tonne capacity and 25-metre span.
The compact European trolley with low-headroom hoist maximised hook height within the existing building envelope, eliminating the need to raise the roof. FEM-optimised double box-girder design reduced deadweight by approximately 20% and lowered wheel loads correspondingly, allowing the existing columns to support the crane without reinforcement—saving roughly 15–20% on civil engineering costs. VFD control across all three motion axes delivered shock-free acceleration and deceleration, while dual-speed hoisting supported both efficient transport cycles and precise positioning at processing and dispatch stations.
Key Advantages
1.Maximised hook height within the reduced-headroom building, eliminating structural modifications
2.Approximately 20% lighter deadweight and lower wheel loads, reducing civil engineering costs by roughly 15–20%
3.VFD-controlled shock-free motion enabling precise load positioning without pipe sway or damage
4.Dual-speed hoisting for both rapid transport and controlled placement
5.Full CE certification and FEM/DIN compliance
The Result
The crane was delivered and commissioned within the project timeline and maintained high operational availability over twelve months of continuous multi-shift operation with no unplanned stoppages. The operator reported measurable throughput improvement attributable to smooth VFD-controlled load handling and dual-speed hoisting, which reduced pipe positioning times at processing and dispatch stations. Additional Yuntian units are planned for a future facility expansion.
